Lightbox Plus 2.4 has been released. I have completely removed support for PHP 4 at this point. PHP 4 reached end of life as of August 8th 2008 and WordPress no longer supports it going forward. Do not upgrade if you are using PHP 4. I also added a small patch to the PHP Simple HTML DOM Parser to check for the existence of the mbstring library which was causing issues for some folks. Milan Petrovic pointed out a minor bug that was causing syntax highlighter using Alex Gorbatchev JavaScript SyntaxHighlighter to not work. This was traced back to the PHP Simple HTML DOM Parser stripping out return. Currently this is set to leave returns in but will be added as an option soon.

Lightbox Plus 2.3.1 has been released. This release includes an update of the PHP Simple HTML DOM Parser from version 1.1 to version 1.5 which should correct some bugs and enhance functionality and speed. I also modified the way the jquery-colorbox.min.js script is en-queued to reduce the chance of conflict with other plugins and updated some styles that were out of date.

This was a quick release prior to the upcoming 2.4 release which will remove PHP 4 support completely.

After a long, long wait I have released Lightbox Plus to version 2.3. It should show up in updates pretty soon if not already. Unfortunately it’s a relatively minor update though it does add some additional functionality both on the WordPress side (up to 100 inline lightboxes are available) but also a variety of changes with ColorBox.

This update includes ColorBox version 1.3.17. I also fixed some minor internal bugs and some incorrect text. And finally I verified compatibility with WordPress 3.2.x.

Lightbox 2.1 added a new HTML DOM parser. However due to a memory leak in PHP 5.1.x and 5.2.x and an improper use of the garbage collection routine a rather glaring bug was introduced in which all content was replaced by information about the programmatic object.  Version 2.2 addresses this issue and correctly cleans up the memory and outputs the content as a result.  The issue was partly my fault and partly PHP 5.1.x/5.2.x fault.

Version 2.2. also reintroduces PHP 4 functionality for those of you still stuck with PHP 4 which is long since (as of 8/8/8) unsupported by the PHP developers.

Lightbox Plus is now up to version 2.1 which replaces the regular expression method for adding lightboxes to content with a new HTML parser method.  Thus far it seems to be much more accurate in interpreting HTML and correctly identifying elements to lightbox.  I also added the option to have your styles live outside of the Lightbox plugin directory which will enable custom styles sets that don’t get removed during upgrades.  There are some other changes as well, follow the jump for all the details.

I’ve been thinking about this for a while now. When I originally wrote Lightbox Plus is was pretty simple and didn’t need to do much – so I used regular expressions to find links to images and modify the links to support lightboxing before WordPress returned them. Now however Lightbox Plus does much more and I’m still using regular expressions. There are numerous problems that seem to stem from this such as not catching every image link on the page especially test links that are separated by a space or a word. So now I am planning on adding a real HTML parser to Lightbox Plus – probably something like PHP Simple HTML DOM Parser

A major flaw was pointed out to me by Milan Petrovic in that the styles (and really the scripts too) in the admin panel were being queued up all across the admin panel. While the scripts were really causing any problems the styles were an issue for plugins that used jQuery UI. I’ve corrected this issue and made a few other modifications while I was at it including some streamlining of code and reduction of JavaScript sizes.

I just released Lightbox Plus version 2.0.1. Didn’t even get a chance to post about version 2.0 before I did an update. This version includes a number of new features such as the ability to add a secondary lightbox that can include video or flash and inline lightboxes that allow the display of inline content. I also made some improvements to the admin panel on its way to a new interface. See the full list of changes from version 1.6.9.7 to version 2.0.1 after the jump.

I noticed that the code to cleanup the doubled rel="lightbox[]" attributes had a nasty couple of changes to it that I forgot to remove after testing. As a result it was removing the href from the link in manually added lightbox attributes and was breaking lightbox completely. See the one line change log and download links after the jump.

I just discovered this lovely bug this morning. Basically the regular expressions do some wierdness to links that remove the href from them and cause the xmlHTTPRequest to go into an infinite loop. I have a strong idea of where the problem is and hopefully will issue a fix soon. My apologies to anyone encountering this problem.
